COVID-19: Consumer Attitudes and Sentiment
This is part of our COVID-19 series which looks at how to adapt, react and recover. On Sunday 1 March 2020, the first case of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Ireland was diagnosed. On Thursday 12 March, the number of cases had risen to 70 in the Republic of Ireland and a further 20 in Northern Ireland, bringing a total number of cases to 90. The Government announced a number of measures to delay the spread of COVID-19 including the closure of universities, schools and childcare facilities.On the eve of St. Patrick’s Day, the Government published an Action Plan to manage COVID-19. The total number of cases in the Republic of Ireland is 292.During this period, Core Research conducted two waves of online quantitative research with a nationally representative sample of 1,000 adults to better understand people’s attitudes towards Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the impact on Irish society and the economy.Wave 1 fieldwork (before restrictions) occurredbetween 4th March and 9th MarchWave 2 fieldwork (after restrictions) occurredbetween 13th March and 17th March.
