Brands Tune In: Irish Podcast Ad Spend Surges 33% in H1 2026

Podcast advertising in Ireland is moving rapidly from an emerging channel into a more established part of the media mix. According to Magellan AI’s first Irish Podcast Advertising Benchmark Report, podcast ad spends increased 33% year-on-year in H1 2026, with 576 new brands entering the channel. Importantly, six of the ten biggest advertisers were also major spenders in 2025, indicating that brands are increasingly making podcasts a recurring part of their media plans rather than testing them on an ad-hoc basis. Financial services was the largest spending category at €1.64m, followed by food (€1.27m) and telecoms (€1.17m).

The growth is being driven predominantly by brand-building rather than performance marketing, with brand-awareness activity accounting for 83% of estimated podcast spend, versus 17% for direct response. At the same time, advertising load has remained virtually unchanged – rising only from 5.64% to 5.71% of podcast content – suggesting that increased investment is being absorbed through stronger demand and monetisation rather than simply inserting substantially more ads. Mid-roll is the most popular placement (46%), followed by pre-roll (37%), while 30-second executions are the most common format. Magellan AI cautions that its figures are estimated benchmarks rather than audited industry totals, but the overall trajectory points clearly towards a growing and maturing Irish podcast advertising market.

What this means for us:

The findings strengthen the case for treating podcasts as a strategic brand channel rather than simply an extension of digital audio or a performance tactic. The combination of 33% spend growth, repeat investment from major advertisers and 83% of expenditure going towards awareness suggests podcasts increasingly deserve consideration alongside radio, digital audio, social and video within brand campaigns. The opportunity will be to become more sophisticated in audience and podcast selection, contextual relevance, host-read versus produced creative, frequency management and measurement of brand impact.

However, growing advertiser demand could also create greater competition for premium Irish podcast inventory, making early planning and stronger publisher relationships increasingly important. Crucially, the arrival of Ireland-specific benchmarking should make it easier for agencies to substantiate recommendations, compare investment levels and build clearer effectiveness cases with clients.
