Improving Your Recommendations on Our Apps with AI at Meta
Meta has announced an update to how it personalises content and ads across Facebook and Instagrm. From mid-December, the platform will start using people’s interactions with Meta’s AI tools, for example, asking the AI questions or using its chat features as another signal to recommend posts, videos and ads. Meta says this should make feeds feel more relevant because the AI can pick up on topics people show interest in. They’ve also confirmed that conversations involving sensitive subjects, like religion, health, sexuality or politics, won’t be used for advertising. This update doesn’t include private messages, and users will get a notification explaining the change with the option to manage their ad preferences as usual.
What this means for us: For us, the key takeaway is that Meta is moving further towards AI-driven personalisation, which will influence how campaigns are delivered and who ends up seeing them. These new signals could help improve targeting by reaching people who are actively showing interest in certain themes or products through their AI interactions. As this rolls out, it will be important for us to watch how it shapes audience behaviour and overall campaign performance. Overall, this update could open opportunities for more relevant targeting while also reminding us to stay aware of how Meta’s ongoing changes impact the digital space.
