Nostalgia Draws in the Viewers

Thirty years since it made its debut and ten years since The Den went off the air, Ray D'Arcy, Zig and Zag, Dustin and Zuppy made a welcome return to Irish screens on Sunday evening. Nineties nostalgia seems to have been just the trick to draw in the viewers. The Den averaged a highly respectable share of over 25% of TV viewers across most main audiences.289,000 adults tuned in and re-connected with their youth.Interestingly, younger adults (15-34 year olds) were also drawn in, with an average of 69,000 viewers. This provided the DEN with a share of over 33% with an audience that would only have been born or in infancy when the original was in its prime.In other viewership news, Ryan Tubridy's support Irish business Late Late Show performed very well on Friday night. The show had an average of over 540,000 adults tuning in to give a share of over 44% of TV viewing, sustaining the continued appeal of the Late Late Show.Deirdre O'Kane's new show Deirdre O'Kane Talks Funny had a successful start in the ratings battle. Featuring guests such as Pat Shortt, the debut episode drew in over 400,000 adults to give it a share of over 33% for that audience on Saturday night. Not to be outdone Virgin Media began its run in to I'm a Celeb in Wales by a look back at the previous seasons and demonstrated its appeal to younger viewers with an average of 29% of 15-24s watching on Sunday. We will be keeping a keen on numbers when the show starts.TV continues to prove a welcome alternative to viewers maxed out on Netflix and with the addition of a considerable helping of live sport at the minute, this is being reflected in the ratings.
