How will people respond to the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions?

The latest research report on detailed consumer behaviour can be downloaded here. People are preparing themselves to adapt to a new approach in every aspect of life and with that in mind, Core Research has asked the public to suggest when they would be comfortable with specific areas of life re-opening. When asking, we added that each restriction lift or adaptation would continue to adhere to physical distancing and strong hygiene practices. The restriction which ranked the highest in terms of the demand to be lifted was an extension to the distance for travel.59% of people said they would like to go outside beyond 2 km (respecting 2 meter distancing) within the next month. In terms of living arrangements, young couples without children were most likely to ask for this. The second restriction that people wanted adapted was to allow small group meeting (3 people not living together, adhering to physical distancing). While 48% of people wanted small group meetings to happen within a month, the majority of people (particularly Mums) said they would only want this after 3 months. This research also separated retail shops from bars and restaurants to understand the demand for economic activity. Once shops adhered to safety guidelines, 47% of adults wanted shops to re-open within a month, while 23% of adults said they would not want this to happen until September ‘20.Cautious Citizens and Public ConsensusDespite half the population wanting these restrictions lifted, the majority of adults are more cautious about the lifting of restrictions. On every other restriction measured, the majority of Irish people did not believe they should be lifted before September, and specific groups of the population had different priorities. Therefore, this report attempts to estimate a roadmap for public embracing restriction lifting. Based on the current public sentiment, we look to predict when a high-level of public consensus on restriction lifting will occur. Read the full detail in the latest report available to download below.
