Health in Ireland
Closing the Gap Between Intention and Action
Irish people are more engaged with their health than ever before, yet fewer now consider themselves healthy than they did two years ago.
Rather than signalling poorer health alone, this reflects a broader shift in expectations. Today, people judge their wellbeing through a wider lens that includes energy, sleep, mental wellbeing, nutrition and physical fitness - not simply the absence of illness.
From intention to action
One of the clearest findings from the research is the gap between aspiration and behaviour.
Across almost every aspect of healthy living, people want to improve, whether that means exercising more, sleeping better, reducing sugar or improving gut health. The challenge is not motivation, but consistency. Many people know what they want to achieve but struggle to turn good intentions into lasting habits.
The opportunity for brands
This presents a significant opportunity for organisations across health, food, fitness, pharmacy and wellbeing.
Consumers do not need to be convinced that health matters - they are already motivated. Instead, they are looking for products, services and experiences that make healthier choices simpler and easier to maintain.
The research also highlights that the greatest improvements come from combining healthier eating, physical activity, better sleep and supportive health products as part of an overall lifestyle. Health is increasingly an ecosystem rather than a series of individual choices.
Brands that help people move from intention to action will be best placed to create long-term value.
