Since 2015, Core Research has been studying the news, events and conversations which shape Irish culture and society. With over 1,700 news stories analysed, our Cultural Index reveals how significant a moment is on people’s life.

In 2023, we spoke to 12,000 people living in Ireland across 12 months about 240 news stories, within 15 news categories.

We ask two simple questions:

1. Were you aware of the story?

2. How impactful is it on your life personally?

From this, we create the Cultural Index, which measures the significance of the story in comparison to others.
