Disney+ Introduces Advertising in Ireland for the First Time

Disney+ is preparing to introduce advertising to its platform in Ireland for the first time, marking a significant shift in the local streaming and media landscape.

Disney has appointed Influent Media to manage advertising sales for its new ad-supported Disney+ tier in Ireland. This move brings the platform into closer alignment with other major streamers that have already rolled out lower-cost, ad-funded plans, and opens up new premium video inventory for Irish agencies and brands.

The new ad-supported plan is expected to offer viewers a cheaper subscription option, while giving advertisers access to high-quality, brand-safe content environments across Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic titles. For media planners, this adds a scaled, regulated streaming environment with strong family and franchise appeal.

What does this mean for Irish advertisers?

For Irish advertisers, the opportunity is twofold. First, it expands the connected TV and streaming mix at a time when linear TV audiences continue to fragment. Second, Disney’s controlled ad load and premium positioning suggest a focus on quality of exposure rather than volume, which may suit brand-led campaigns more than performance-heavy buys.

As streaming continues to evolve locally, Disney+ introducing ads signals that ad-supported video-on-demand is moving from optional extra to mainstream channel, and one that will likely feature more prominently in Irish media plans going forward.
